Timbers to name Spencer head coach

The Portland Timbers are expected on Tuesday to name John Spencer head coach for the team's inaugural season of Major League Soccer, according to a report in The Oregonian.
The Business Journal reported last December that Spencer was the leading candidate for the job.
The team starts MLS play next year.
Spencer, a 39-year-old native of Glasgow, Scotland, has spent the last four years as an assistant with the Houston Dynamo, a period in which the team won two MLS Cup championships guaranteed payday loan. He had an 18-year playing career with the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland, and Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers, and Everton in England, and MLS' Colorado Rapids.
In mid-July, reports again surfaced that Spencer would be the first MLS coach for the Timbers.
